Hello,

Mostly work on desktops, but I now need to replace some laptop HD's...for an Dell Inspiron 6000 and a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I opened up the laptop...they are obviously not SATA connections like my desktops, but not sure if they are PATA, IDE, etc?

Is there a standard?

Thank you.

They are likely the laptop version of IDE, which are smaller.

Just looked at my Toshiba Laptop internal HD...definitely not a "pin" connector type, has 2 slots that appear for data transfer and 4 "pins" for power I suppose. Is this is different, newer type of transfer hardware for laptops? I'm used to seeing the "pin" type.

Thanks.

Just figured it out...my Toshiba has a SATA HD and the dell has a IDE hard drive, found a good image at http://www.laptopparts101.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sata-ide-laptop-hard-drive.jpg

Generally, with IDE, on newegg you'll be searching for ATA-6.

Glad you found out what you needed to know.
