I have a SATA hdd from a laptop that was jumped on by my son. I am trying to use my XP desktop to recover the data.

When i first plugged it in it did show in my explorer tree, but with a red error mark next to it. Now it wont show at all.
Could the problem be that the laptop hdd is Vista and my DT is XP?
Is there software that can help with this?

or is the problem due to the hdd being totally rooted?

Any help would be much appreciated

TIA

Jordo

Thanks for the suggestions fellas. Turned out to be a dodgey data cable. Got one from work and it showed up straight away.
Im now having issues with the recovery, but ill do another forum search first. If i dont have any luck ill go to the hardware issues section.

Thanks again

Jordo
