Quick Laptop VGA out/display question.

This laptop's resolution is 1366 x 768. It has integrated graphics. Does this mean that when I plug it into my 1440x900 monitor that the max resolution it will be able to display is 1366 x 768?

This laptop's max resolution is 1080p. When I plug it into my monitor will I be able to downgrade the resolution to 1440x900?

It entirely depends on the GPU and the connection you're using. You're almost certainly not limited to the resolution of the laptop's screen. At minimum, you'll be able to display 1080p.

So, in answer to both your questions

I'm pretty sure it will work up to 1080p (1920x1080). The highest resolution that VGA can use is 1920x1200 so I would think that is the limit of both laptops. It will be able to use smaller resolutions than 1920x1080 depending on your monitor, though some resolutions (1680x1050 for instance) are sometimes not available by default and must be added manually.

I'm pretty sure all integrated graphics can handle 1920x1200 or at least 1920x1080, even on my Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook with GMA950 graphics I was able to connect my 1920x1080 monitor and use the full resolution, the laptop's screen is only 1024x576. The size/resolution of the laptop panel is irrelevant when connecting an external monitor.
