I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any software that exists or that is being developed that would take your current laptop memory environment and make a quick image of it so that it could be quickly moved to a virtual machine on your desktop pc say by gigabit ethernet or wireless N? I have used Ghost before but I think that the process of converting the image from raw data to a virtual disk file (ie vmdk or vdi) could be merged with an imaging software that could merge and simplify the process. Would have to be open source too! :D

This probably already exists right? I'm sure a script that has say Virtualbox's vboxmanage and Clonezilla working together to make and then convert the image could be employed and than copies the file to a network share but it wouldn't be very graceful. :)
