Default Programming Laptop?

I'm looking for the perfect laptop. For me obviously just one to fit my needs.
It needs to be cheapish ($100-$500)[they all need to be inexpensive ] and be perfect for PROGRAMMING[all of the different languages eventually].
I'm sure that basic functions like internet, email and pictures are alread applied but if not then I will look over that one.
If you get what I'm saying then GREAT! Please make a suggestion!
If you don't get what I'm saying considering the time right now and the fact that I'm on a super sugar buzz please, ask me to explain more.....

Thanks for your help and hope to see some good replies!

I don't think you will find one under $500 to crunch numbers, especially in the more advanced coding.

Are you going to college for this? You might want something better if so. Might last you the first year...

Yes its a dell, but its a $500 system with an i5
Newegg.com - Recertified: DELL Latitude E5410 Notebook Intel Core i5 520M(2.40GHz) 14.1" Wide XGA 2GB Memory DDR3 1333 160GB HDD 5400rpm DVD-ROM Intel HD

you really don't need much more than Aan i5... Do they make quad i5s for modiles.

Seriously though.. any system will program.. they just might tke years to compile.

I have a Pentium dual-core in my laptop, and for compiling my small-ish c++ programs for classes, it gets 'em done pretty quickly.

Well, yes, small stuff. We don't know how far he is going. Anything more, and it will take awhile to compile.

That's why I was specific as to what I was doing it with . He never said what language he is programming in, nor what even area of study he is in, so I gave an example of what I have/was doing.

That would be tough to write MS code in OSX. Right?

Partially right. Visual C++ and all of the other .NET languages (VB,C#,F#) are Microsoft languages and pretty much windows exclusives but C++ and C are not.
