Default OS install issue

Dell Inspiron E1705
Windows media 05

Some of you may remember my post of the issues my computer has been having:
Hieroglyphics..... and a black screen

A computer store had fixed it apparently. Said there was a few corrupt files and once they were deleted it booted up fine. It did but started again a few days later.

Anyway, i was going to install the OS again but the laptop came with no disk.
I obtained XP Pro from a friend for a desktop ( if that matters?)

I F2 and changed startup to boot from disk.
Computer then starts to boot from disk, runs through some files it flashes on the bottom of the screen. A minute might go by and then it get a blue error screen.

I'm not sure where to go from here.

Looks like it could be a RAM issue. Download the Memtest86+ ISO, and burn it to a blank CD with an ISO burning program (Use The Official ImgBurn Website if you don't have one), and then boot off of the disc. Let it run for at least 4 hours, and let us know if it reports any errors.

i found memtest68 from their website. I'm not sure which file to download.
.gz?
.zip?
pure Dos? (probably not)
Dos-win? (probably not)

I would assume it would be the precompiled bootable ISO...
or a precompiled bootable binary?

I've never done this before so i have questions...

The ISO in the Zip file, here: http://www.memtest.org/download/2.10...+-2.10.iso.zip

Extract the ISO file from the Zip file, and burn it with ImgBurn (download link was in my previous post).

Do not extract the ISO. Just burn the ISO as is.

I ran it overnight. If i'm not mistaken, no errors.

I also ran the computers self diagnostic again. Here's what i got:

Error code: 0f00.136C
Msg: IDE device failed. Blank media or no media is present in optical drive. Test requires media with data ( resource CD, installation cd)

Error Code: 5300.0119
Msg: Detected a failure while writing and reading video memory. Video mode: 4H (320x200x4) Address B8024H, expected to read 0h, but read 800080h instead.

i also had maybe 10 more error messages that where like the second one except the video mode was a different #, as well as, the address.

Try a new IDE Cable. Says that there is a IDE Device failure.

New IDE cable on a laptop? Did you format the drive prior to install? This article may help some. How to troubleshoot a Stop 0x0000007E error in Windows XP

I would have a shot at running something like KillDisk to reformat the sectors of the disk.
According to that article from hefemeister the error can be caused by insufficiant HD space and therefor could be related.

Cheers,
