Yea it's been out in the open for awhile that laptops are slowly becoming "build-able" however..it's almost always more expensive to "build" one then to configure one/buy one from a vendor like dell/acer/msi/etc...

You can build a Thinkpad T60 on a budget of just around $300~
With an OS those sell on ebay for $400+
It's a decent turn around in some cases, but finding all the parts and building it piece by piece could take some time, as there isn't a Newegg equivalent for laptop parts.
 
Doesn't really count for everything though, as they don't sell system boards and various case pieces, keyboards? touchpads? wireless antennae? chassis? cables? screws?

I mean, I see the major parts, but I don't see that stuff.
