Default Notebook for dad

So my dad is in dying need of a new notebook. His Vaio from 2002 just won't cut it anymore lol. He is on a budget although I don't know exactly how much(guessing it's sub-700). He will be using it as an email checker, web surfer, picture uploader and movie watcher. He needs excel(he likes and a card reader that will read his compact drive card from his Sony camera that will upload photos. Any suggestions?

Lenovo Thinkpad X220
i7 2620M
4GB DDR3 1333MHz
320GB HDD 5400rpm :(

I think this beats that:

Buy the HP Pavilion dv6910us 15.4" Widescreen Entertainment Laptop and other Laptop computers at

HP DV6910US - $600, spend the extra $100 to get Office Home and Student for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Don't forget that almost all laptops don't come with office on them.
Also Acer laptops are crap... I see more defective Acer's than anything else.
