Not able to stop sound

I recently bought a HP Pavilion dv7t laptop. Everything works amazing and its a huge upgrade from my 6 year old laptop. The only problem I have run into is hitting the mute button doesn't work for everything. I will hit the mute button and sound will stop for say youtube videos in firefox, but I will still hear sounds from Skype coming through the speakers. The speaker icon in the taskbar shows up as muted (with the red x). I installed the latest drivers off of HPs website. I was wondering if there was anything else I should be looking at?

Think your soundcard is bad, loose connection or something. Call up HP and ask for an RMA. That's about your best bet.
