I'm going to be needing a new laptop soon, and, having looked into the specs I would like, I would like some advice. Here are some of the goals I have for this laptop:

  • Able to play Bioshock, the Orange Box, and Oblivion on anywhere from Medium to Very High settings, highest possible given the below.
  • Decent portability and, for that matter, battery life (preferably at least 3-4 hours under lighter loads)
  • 15ish inch screen
  • 3-4 GBs of RAM
  • 7200 RPM Hard Drive >= 120 GB
  • Vista Home Premium 64bit
  • Prefer a 1680 x 1050 resolution possible but games can/will be set lower if needed.
  • $900-2000ish

Any suggestions and advice would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Also, this is what I am currently looking at:

I'm just worried that this may not be the best bang for my buck and that the 8600M GT might not be quite up to par for the games I'm looking at. What does everyone think?

I would recommend the HP Pavilion dv9700t series. It has a huge 17", 1680x1050 screen, fast Core 2 Duo processor (I got the T9300 in mine), decent nVidia GeForce 8600M GS 512MB graphics, and 250GB hard drive. I play The Orange Box on it all the time with very good quality (full resolution and high settings). I got mine for $1800 with Vista Ultimate 64 and a TV tuner card with media center remote.

I definitely think you should check out this laptop.
