need help

I have a Compaq presario M2000 laptop and it shut off by itself. Then to get it to boot again i have to take the battery and power cord out. Then replace them and it will start up but it will eventually shut off by itself again. The amount of time it stays on each time seems random(sometimes 5 minuets and sometimes a couple of hours). Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong with it? thanks in advance.

sounds like your battery is dieing have you got a replacement lying around?

I don't have an extra battery. When it turns on it says 100% battery though. Thanks for the response.

AMD sempron 2800+ 1.59 GHz, 384 Mb RAM, 60 Gig HDD, Windows xp home. Thanks for the replies. I will also trying searching on google.

Does this happen on battery power and when plugged in? If not, try both again and get back to us.

It happens during both battery only and when plugged in.
