I have a Dell Inspiron 17R-5720 up until yesterday it's been charging and holding it for a decent amount of time but right now it's plugged in and will not charge but if I take the battery out and plug in the charger it's able to use the power it will not charge the battery though.

Looks like you need a new battery.

You could probably find a battery around for much cheaper on newegg though.

Batteries DO, in fact, die. And most of the time without warning unfortunately.

You should be able to find some from random battery websites, take note though, most of them are based in China, meaning that the battery comes straight from China to you.
One example, the website, "usalaptopbattery.com" is based in China, ironically.
