Brand new MSI GE620 laptop purchased about a month ago running windows 7.

The first time i noticed the error was about an hour after setting it up. The PC locked up for about 3 seconds then resumed normal operation.

Second instance occurred a few months later but the lock up was roughly 30 seconds longer.

Third and forth instance occurred a week ago then again today, both roughly 30 seconds of lockup.

Prime 95 for 5 hours Checks out
Ram tests Check out
CHKDSK checks out
Increased the values of the buffer size in registry to 200, up from 100.

I have a feeling this won't help because the error occurs even if I'm not typing.

I use the laptop quite extensively for packet tracer and VMware so i would like to avoid sending it back to the manufacturer if i can help it.

Thanks in advance for any insight on the problem.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the temperatures are fine. usually never dip over 80C.

Umm, 80C is bad. It shouldn't go much above 70C in Prime95.

When does it "lock up"? It has to be doing something big for it to lock up.

What error?

Hmm i thought this was generally acceptable for Core I7 CPU's. My desktop has a first generation and it runs at similar temperatures.

The first occurrence was 3-4 seconds long and it was sitting idle on desktop
Second and third occurrence was an idle web page or two
Forth occurrence i was running a full screen game.

If anyone could tell me how to increase the timeout values for windows error reporting i might be able to get a more detailed error message. Default is 30000ms i think.
