Summary:

1) When in "Power Saver" mode, GPU hits 75C+ when watching flash video, 80C+ and shutdown when watching physical DVD.

2) When in "balanced power" mode temps reach 80C+ and laptop goes auto-shutdown.

I have always assumed that this is just a result of use(many hours on lap, bedtop comforter) and that the components have simply lost structural and operational integrity because of overuse/heat.

Anything I can do/should check out? I have speedfan but don't really know how to optimize it. Anything I could replace myself within the laptop relatively cheaply to solve this?

Intelligent admittance of being unintelligible lol.

You probably shouldn't put in on a comforter like that but I think you get that part. Speedfan even when done right isn't gonna help you on a laptop. We don't really know if anything is broken so there isn't a fix.. . yet.

Try opening up the case first and cleaning that baby out really good.
