ya the lappy's with the nvidia 4xx cards are expensive= $1200 and up with the exception of the Samsung. Hence I am waiting for someone who has one to chime in and give there experience with it.

I'm not sure which is best so let the pro's choose the best for you
Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS7551G-6477 NoteBook AMD Phenom II Triple-Core N850(2.2GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS5745G-7671 NoteBook Intel Core i3 370M(2.40GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M
Also here's a page full of laptops for such price : 700 dollar gaming laptop
Since I'm not so experienced, the others will definitely find the best for you

Well, I found this today = not $700- but less than 1K. Not a 4xxM nvidia, but a 57xx ATI. Here is a link:

I may go for this one. holding out for Black Friday.

It's an awesome laptop IMO. But he said his budget is 700$, so I brought him the list of the laptops in his price range. If he can afford that, IMO, it'll be a great purchase and should satisfy him.

Ya, your correct - but now he at least has a choice under 1k that can game pretty well. Sometimes a few hundred shows up when he decides for real.

Darn it cant get that link to work to CompUSA correctly. It copy/pastes fine, but when I try the link I get "GIF image" = "fail".

I'm looking at that link that you gave me Skorpian, the one that has the list. Those are nice prices ...now to decide which one....

Nvm about the gateway.

Is tigerdirect a legit website?

Ok, so I figured out I want a smallish laptop (one to take to college classes)

so I might try to get a cheap M11x or something that size (maybe 15")

So you want something 15'', no smaller, no bigger, true?
Also is your budget expandable? Or you're on tight 700$
I think this is the best, 15'' and on your budget :
Newegg.com - TOSHIBA Satellite L655-S5111 NoteBook Intel Core i3 370M(2.40GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
700$ + 14$ shipping and it's one heck of a laptop.
But wait for confirmation, maybe there's something better in laptop world. I'm not very experienced
