I'm looking at getting a gaming laptop that will still be usable for a few years of gaming (if that's possible).
Max budget: $875 can. (although I'd prefer to spend less money)

I've been looking at some laptops and would like to play demanding games like skyrim, etc., 15.6" would be best.

here's some ideas i had.
- lenovo Y580 (the base model) IdeaPad Y580 15.6" Laptop | Shop | Lenovo | US | Lenovo | (CA)

- HP Pavilion DV6-6C50CA HP Pavilion DV6-6C50CA Entertainment - 15.6" - Core i5 2450M - Windows 7 Ho - A7G74UA#ABC - Notebook Computers - CDW.CA

- Acer Aspire V3-771G-9875 Amazon.com: Acer Aspire V3-771G-9875 17.3-Inch Laptop (Midnight Black): Computers & Accessories

- HP Pavilion dv6-6c53nr Buy HP Pavilion dv6-6c53nr, 15.6 inch entertainment notebook pc, Intel Core i5 processor, WiDi, HDMI - Microsoft Store Online

I really like the GTX 660 on the lenovo, but it comes with only 720p. any other ideas?

The Ideapad has pretty good specs. Normally I wouldn't recommend an Ideapad because of their generally inferior build quality to compared to Thinkpads, but in your price range it would be a good deal. My laptop has the i7-3610QM and 660m, and I can play all the newest games (Max Payne 3, BF3, Skyrim, etc...) on high-ultra @1080p.

I have a friend who convinced me to build a desktop. I'll buy a cheap laptop for school later.

The Acer Aspire V3-771G-9875 would be much better option. It is compatible with almost every game and performance is quiet brilliant.
