Is it possible to upgrade a year old laptop's graphics card?

A few of the Alienwares from a couple of years ago let you but as a general rule: NO as they are integrated into the motherboard.

Are cards like the 9600gt an integrated card??

The real issue is the power supply and cooling.

That is a very important issue. Sure you might be able to upgrade your video card. (very unlikely) However will the laptop have enough power and cooling to support it.
