Default Which Laptop is a better machine?

I'm afraid the details of computer specs leave me blinking in the dark so I was hoping someone could help me.

I'm getting my wife a laptop for her return to University so it doesn't need to be a super high spec overclocked gaming machine or anything and the following 2 come on various deals - can someone tell me which is likely to be a better machine?

Machine 1
• Acer Extensa 5230 - Notebook PC
• Processor - 1 x Intel® Celeron® 575 2.0GHz, 667MHz FSB
• Cache - 3MB - L2 Cache
• Chipset - Mobile Intel® GL40 Express
• Hard Drive - 160GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
• Networking - Ethernet
• Fast Ethernet
• Gigabit Ethernet
• IEEE 802.11b
• IEEE 802.11g
• IEEE 802.11n
• Telecom - Fax / modem
• RAM - 1GB (installed)
• Graphics Controller - Intel® GMA 4500M
• Built-in Devices - Stereo speakers
• Wireless LAN aerial
• Display - 15.4" WXGA high-brightness TFT LCD, 1280 x 800
• Optical Storage - DVD-Super Multi Double Layer drive
• OS Provided - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic
• Dimensions (WxDxH) - 36 cm x 26.7 cm x 4.3 cm
• Weight - 3.02 kg
• Manufacturer Warranty - 1 Year Warranty

Machine 2
Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-23L

Which one should I get her?

If the price is the same I would go with the Toshiba.

Thanks for that Trotter.

If you wouldn't mind educating me a bit, is that because Toshiba make better machines than Acer or is there something specific that jumps out at you (processor or whatever) that I could do with knowing?

The Toshiba has a faster CPU. While it is only 200MHz faster, that can surely help with some things. The Acer is only rated at 2GHz and the Toshiba is a 2.2GHz. They are both Celerons. So if hte prices are the same the Toshiba would be the better value as you are getting a better CPU.
