For $30 more, the Toshiba has these pros:

-LED-backlit screen with a higher resolution
-A bigger hard drive
-Has wireless N over the HP

HP's pros:
-Better integrated sound (Altec Lansing)
-Has an ExpressCard slot
-HDMI output

It would just be a matter of which pros your brother would value more. The HP would be better for media purposes.

Toshiba! Wireless N and includes Microsoft office 2007 if you don't already have a copy. Also, higher res screen and more space on hard drive. Plus, if you run out of battery life then you can just look at the smexy design on the front

I also try to steer away from HP's now because they have one of the top 3 hardware failure rates out of all companies. And they have lots of crapware.

Toshiba or Dell. I have a Vostro 1500. Never had a problem with it in 2.5 years. My father owns a Toshiba for almost a year now.
