Default Laptop Back light is dead.

My neighbors laptop back light died, the computer works fine the screen works fine accept the back light is dead. Can the back light be replaced or will they have to get a new screen for the computer to use it without having to use a desktop monitor?

You can replace the back light but it can be a real *****. Can't always find the part you need, either. What is the manufacturer/Model# of the laptop? I'll help if I can, I've done this before a few times.

i've herd it can be very expensive to and hard to do it as well. he should just use an external monitor or if it s under warranty send it in for repair

The only thing ATi can render faster than nVidia is the BSOD

It also depends on the model of computer. I know in many of the Apple and Dell laptops I have serviced the problem was not the backlight itself, but instead the board between the logic board and the LCD.

Yes there is that, also. I have had that happen to me maybe once or twice but I think were both also Dells. It can be a tricky business if you don't know what you're doing...
