Hello all,

I am trying to install a new hard drive (Western Digital 80GB IDE) into my Toshiba A70 laptop. I purchased an external hard drive enclosure in hopes of getting it formatted and putting an image of my last drive on it. I am having trouble formatting it though. Whenever I attach the drive to my USB, my computer detects the new hardware and the type of drive, but it does not show up as a drive in "My Computer".

I've checked Disk Management, but it shows up as an unallocated space on a seperate drive and I can't do anything to it. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this drive formatted?

Thank you for your help.

Have you tried it via an internal connection? Not through the enclosure.

Otherwise you can check that model on the manufacturers site for fixes or updated firmware.

If there is none might need to RMA it.

What do you mean by internal connection? I can only connect 1 HD internally, and doing that doesn't work either....already tried. Is there anyway I can make a bootable CD and perhaps put format and fdisk on it?

I tried booting up with Ultimate CD but I got a message about no operating system found.
