Default I want to buy a new harddrive for my Dell Latitude D505...

So, I basically want a new hard drive to put in a laptop I got for free. I want to upgrade the hard drive to atleast 100 gigs. I have a few questions about this:

1. Is it possible to upgrade the harddrive in a Dell Latitude D505?
2. If so, are there only certain harddrives that are compatible with this laptop?
3. How easy is it to replace a hard drive in a laptop?

Hello,

It is possible to change the hard drive in your laptop, and it is straightforward to do. The service guide for your laptop will tell you how to replace the hard drive:

Dell Latitude D505 Service Manual: Replacing the Hard Drive

As for the type of hard drive, you'll need a 2.5" IDE (ATA/PATA) Hard Drive of any speed or capacity (ideally a speed of at least 5400 RPM). Here are some example products:

Hitachi Travelstar 5K160 160GB ATA-6 2.5in 5400RPM Mobile Hard Drive at ZipZoomfly

Newegg.com - HITACHI Travelstar 5K160 HTS541616J9AT00 (0A28419) 160GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive - Laptop Hard Drives

Unfortunately, this is a SATA hard drive and is not compatible with your laptop. You need to purchase a 2.5" PATA hard drive (also referred to as an IDE or ATA hard drive).
