After shutting down my two year old HP dv6408nr, I have to unplug the power supply in order to boot up Vista. When you press the power button, the humming of the fans kick in a delayed second or two. After that, you'll only get a black screen (completely off) and the power indicator light. No hard drives sounds or anything else. After 30 seconds, the computer reboots by itself. It will finally boot up Windows after 3 or so self-reboots WITHOUT the power supply (battery only). Once it finally loads up, everything appears to be fine. No error messages, performance issues, etc. These circumstances also apply whenever I put it to sleep, hibernate, standby, or even just restart it.
I really don't want this to be the motherboard. Those cost too much. Then again, I don't want have to keep my computer on for days end too. I notice the laptop itself gets real hot around the hard drive area--could that possibly be it? Is it? You know, my lid doesn't close all the way anymore.
