first, on my laptop (well my sisters), the fan goes for about 3 seconds or so and turns off. I think it is either a bad fan or its just loose. Me not having any experience with laptops I don't want to even try opening it. So Bestbuy will replace the fan for 39 bucks as long as we bring it in. The problem is, on HP's website for our computer there is no fan part listed.

The confusion i have is on the laptop it says it is a DV1000, but a little farther down it says it is a DV1580SE. Does anyone know what is up with that, The laptop is supposely a "Special Edition" did they just have a DV1000 and make it special with a name?

on the HP website, under manuals for the DV1580SE they list a DV1000 hardware and software guide

HP Pavilion dv1580se Notebook PC: Manuals

will a DV1000 fan fit in this (if so that'd be amazing as it would cost like 44 bucks) HP wants 400 bucks for us to send the computer to them, so I'm not doing that. Oh and the computer is out of warranty. thanks for any help

Hello,

DV1000 is the series number. DV1580SE is the model number. One series has many notebooks which vary in specification, but are the same form factor.

I've searched on the HP Parts Store and I too couldn't find a fan listed for any of the two HP DV1580SE Pavilion notebooks which exist. However, you can find out the fan part number by looking at spare part listings for any other DV1000 series notebook. The fan part number is 367795-001. Unfortunately, this part is not available to order online on the HP Part Store.

The Maintenance and Service Guide for your notebook (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00400901.pdf) verifies this part number.

If you struggle to find places which sell this part, you'll find several item listings on eBay:
