Smile Hi performance laptop

Hey, I'm looking into getting a Hi-spec laptop. It'll be for gaming, surfing, music, video, and needs a good soundcard and RAM, suitable for recording.

I was looking at the Alienware M15X, but I don't want to spend that much.
Can you help recomend me a laptop?

If it helps, I'm currently running an Acer aspire desktop, vista h.p. 32bit, with an athlon 2.2Ghz precessor. 767 Mb of RAM.

I'll probably be running vista 64 bit.

Thanks, Louis.

To start with, what's your budget?

And realize that if you want a high end laptop, you will be paying a pretty penny for it. Why not upgrade your desktop?

if you are getting a new gaming laptop, i suggest the asus G50vt since it is 15" so relatively portable and has an nvidia 9800M GS which is one of the best in the market for laptops... and its about £1000 here in the UK....

If you're in the market for a high performance laptop, I'm guessing you're going to have a pretty killer budget. Keep in mind Alienware and brands alike are boutique computers, you're paying a premium for the name. I'm not knocking them by any means, just letting ya know.

The one Viksta suggested is a good choice. I'd look for at least a 15"(Having an external monitor for gaming at home would be awesome) if not a 17" if you're willing to lose a little portability. 9800M and 4GB of RAM.

I've become a fan of MSI's notebooks. They look great and it seems you get good hardware for your money. But like Yamikoai said, what's your budget?

$949.99- Newegg.com - MSI GX620-001US NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8400(2.26GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA 4GB Memory 320GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT - Laptops / Notebooks -P8400, 9600M GT, 4GB, 320GB.

$1,099.99- Newegg.com - MSI GT627-216US NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8400(2.26GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS - Laptops / Notebooks -P8400, 9800M, 4GB, 320GB.

$1,699.99- Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G50VT-A1 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T9400(2.53GHz) 15.4" Wide SXGA+ 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS - Laptops / Notebooks -T9400, 9800M GS, 4GB, 500GB.

ASUS and MSI make laptops that are between the last two price points, you'll just find varying hard drive sizes, 9800M or 9650M, same procs, and same amount of RAM.

Its not worth it... price is way too high, and the GPU in it (the 8600m GT) is quite mediocre...

Check Scan.co.uk or any other UK site for a better deal, because that is not a good one

I'm really not tooo fussed about the price.

I could upgrade the GPU to a 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3870
or a 512MB NVidia® GeForce® 8700M GT

Would you recommend either of these GPUs?

No I would not recommend either of those GPU's compared to what's currently out nor would I recommend that laptop. But between the two I'd say the 3870.
