Ok my hard drive is toast i think...
at least i think it is just the boot sector..
my laptop was working fine.. then it freezes up..
so i reboot it..
it goes though the start up then reboots itself.. .. goes to a screen saying did not boot properly...
blah blah blah..

gives me 2 options

Fix boot up prolems.. ( recommended )
start normally

i choose the fix boot up problems..
it seems to do that then reboot.. it goes back to the same screen
i pick start normally
computer does nothing.. so i shut it off.. & go back to
fix boot up problems..
then it gives another screeen saying there is a file missing.
use windows install disk to fix problem
so i try start normally..
this time it tells me a kernal32 system file is missing or corrupt..
use windows install disk to fix problem.

so today i buy the esata external enclosure

I have it hooked up.. to a windows XP computer.
My laptop was a windows vista..

it reads as having 2 drives.. ( i am thinking 2 partitions.. HP )
at future shop the guy said with HP's when you hit f11 repeatedly on start up it will boot up into the windows disk.. & reformat your HD..
I didn't do this yet.. so no reformatted drive or 1/2 formatted drive..

MY PROBLEM...
I have it hooked up.. it is reading as 2 drives..
1 says unformatted.. E drive
1 says unavailable F drive

My questions..
1.
SHould I format the drive? If i do.. won't that erase the information i am trying to get off the HD before i hit the f11 on my laptop to reinstall windows?

2.
Could it be a pin setting .. ( reference from having put together some 2 HD desktop computers in the past ) ??????

3. Most important..
How do I get the information off my HD without spending a fortune...???

I do realize I think the HD is fried.. atleast the boot sector...
is it possible it is completely fried? If it is.. can I still get the wedding pictures off of it?

My mom does have a WD external HD with most of the pictures.. but I have other stuff I would like to get off.. but I am not paying what best buy's geek squad wants to do this.

Any suggestions & help would be greatly appreciated
Thanx
