Hello all,

My MSI GT780DXR's GPU just died, and I'm looking at upgrades.

Currently thinking gtx675m as it seems to not require a new heatsink or bios.

I'd like the best card my laptop can support, and I have updates bios and heatsinks before... But I'm hesitant to deal with changing the bios because the laptop boots now without any video, due to the GPU failing...
Thoughts?

Regards,

Ben

I just got told that this card, the gtx675m, isn't compatible with my laptop, is this true?

Thanks, I had read that, though it seems ultimately unclear if the 675 would work or not.
Apparently it's just a renamed 580 with slightly higher clock speed?
I was hoping to get an MSI branded card and forgo bios shenanigans, but they don't seem to sell any and they are hard to find elsewhere..

Hahaha, turns out MSI is useless no matter the language, just like any big company.
After calling 3 different numbers, I've been told to email them to ask if it is physically possible to change the video card in my laptop.
I think I'll just buy it online.
The 675m is apparently just a reserviced 580m, with slightly higher clock speed. Refer to the note on this: http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/261307465297?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE
Options 1. For 580m: best service, free expedited shipping, most expensive:

Option 2. For 580m, less ram, cheaper, slightly worse service, free postage:

Option 3. 580m, reserviced version of option 1, same ram, cheapest, non existent service:

Thoughts?

Only issue I could see is that it I think it has a slightly higher TDP (100w vs ~75w of the 570m), so your battery might not last as long.

Hmm, I have the card, no problems with the order...
But I can't get the card to work with my GT780DXR.
It's a Dell GTX580m.
Ideas? I edited the .inf files on the driver, but the install gets an error part way through.
Regards,
Jah.
