Default good relaible External Hard drive

I need a good external hard drive for my laptop. I recently got a little paranoid about my hard drive crashing and losing all my files. I want something about 500-750GB

Every hard drive is due to fail. All externals do is make it more "mobile"

Exactly why do you need it so high? Unless you backup full DVD movies, 320-500Gb is plenty.

But for Externals, I would go with Seagate, Western Digital, or Samsung.

For simple backups, the "slim" version (USB only) is ok.
For streaming movies or music, or just simply have it always on, I would reccomend one with external power.

Do you need to back these up, or are you playing those movies, music from it?

How much space does this exactly take up? You might want to backup those movies onto DVD.

if you are in the USA
take a look at this
with the dock, you can expand your storage space down the road easily
plug, and play
