Default This a good gaming laptop for under $1000?

Ok I've found my last christmas gift. Its for a gamer and I'm looking at a limit of $1000. I've tried some custom websites like dell.com, alienware, and some others. Nothing comes close to this and the price.

Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS7520-5311 NoteBook AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58(1.90GHz) 17.0" Wide XGA+ 2GB DDR2 667 160GB DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G - Retail

What do you think?

Is there anything better? Buying this or something in a week. I need to commit to something.

Go to dell, search for Vostro, upgrade the GPU to an 8600 series.... It only adds like $99... And do some other upgrades if you would like.

I would agree with maroon.
8400gs is horrible for gaming.

I customized a Dell Vostro notebook that came upto $909 before taxes, but could be cheaper and this is what it included.

Dell vostro 15" with truelife
C2D 2ghz
2gb ram
8600gt
1490 wireless card
84whr battery
2.0mp intg camera
120gb hdd

it could be much cheaper if you take out some unnessary stuff.

And btw, the vostros are on sale right now and wont last too long. ANd they dont come with all the crap usuall retail laptops come with cos vostros are directed to businesses.

A laptop's upgrade capacity is highly limited compared to a desktop machine, making its gaming life much shorter. If you're shopping for a game computer, I would highly consider a desktop. It will save you some money too :-)

Agreed for the price you could build a crazy cool desktop that won't be oudated near as fast. Now if you need the portability than The lappy that your looking at might not be so bad for the price sad thing is theres not going to be a lot of decent gaming laptops out there for under a grand.
