Default Gateway p-7811fx using HDMI output to HDTV ?

I have the gateway p-7811fx that has an HDMI output. I also have an HDTV with HDMI input. IS there any other step besides connecting the laptop through an HDMI cable to the HDTV? If so what are the other steps of doing so?

For example: if i connect the laptop to my hdtv using an hdmi cable, will the tv automatically display whatever is on my computer screen? Do i have to mess with any other settings?
