If you don't mind a 17" this laptop has a 8800M GTS 512mb and costs $1,350

Gateway - Laptop with Intel® Centrino® Processor Technology - P-6860FX

Its not bad for the price since it comes with the 8800M GTS but here are a few problems:

1) Gateway lappys are non-customizable, you gotta buy the config they sell

2) for $1350 a person is better off with a resolution of atleast 1600

3) Also for $1350, one could score a good T9300 + 3gb of RAM and mediocre 8600M GS + 1600 resolution on a 17" through HP, Dell is ridiculous with its pricing.

IF and ONLY IF -> Gateway offered customizable configs. on their laptops with decent pricing, I would consider them against HP's. But I dont see them doing that any soon.

You should check out Dell's Vostro series. They tend to have better prices and options than dell's other laptops. For $1393 you can get a Dell Vostro 1500 with the following specs.

True, I agree with you but for the same price the 17" is still a deal in my opinion. Also... the 1700 series in Vostro is a $250 if you jump up from T8100
an additional $150 for the screen and a good $150 for the videocard. :(

just these 3 options run into $1439 :money:

Gaming really sucks battery life out of the laptop, but web browsing on power saver mode is actually pretty good. It's not a power saver laptop by far, but it does have some features to cut performance to save power. The CPU can cut its speed to around 800MHz and it can dim the screen, it also turns off transparency in Vista's windows to save power on the graphics.

The screen is glossy, but it's not bad, the gloss improves color performance and makes the image look brighter.
