I'm having a problem setting up my new HP w2207 monitor with my laptop. It mirrors it fine, but I'd prefer it to extend to the monitor instead. When i set it to extend, i can tell that it does extend because the mouse moves onto the next screen, however the monitor goes into sleep mode. Therefore I can't see any picture on it. And it stays in sleep mode no matter what even if i restart or change the settings back. The only way i got it back to mirror mode is by doing a system restore. Ive connected it using dvi but I don't think it matters for extending the monitor. Any ideas? (I emailed HP, but no help at all.)

What kind of laptop is it and what's the video card installed? Sounds more likely to be a problem with the video card and not the monitor to me.
