desktop cd drive for laptop?

hey guys,
so i've been doing some research but unfortunately i could not find anything.
so like the title suggests:

i have an internal cd/dvd drive laying around here and a laptop with a broken internal drive.

my question is, can i use the desktop internal drive to use as external with the laptop?

i figured i could do it using eSATA but the laptop is pretty old so does not have eSATA..

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If you have a SATA to USB adapter you could do it, or an optical enclosure. Like these:
Micro Center - NexStar DX 5.25" SATA to USB Aluminum Enclosure with Fan
or
Micro Center - u-Jam Pro IDE/SATA USB Hard Drive Adaptor
