After just 2 months the computer stopped recognizing the DVD drive (is not shown on my computer). The only thing I have done is install Norton 360(legal). I do not know what time after that the pc stopped recognizing it. The system restore is not succesful. After a scan, it shows no viruses etc... In the device manager, I hit the update driver button but it says that the correct driver is already installed.

What could be wrong?

Have you tried removing it from Device Manager and then restarting and letting Windows reinstall the device?

Have you checked to see if there is a firmware update for the drive or a BIOS update for the mother board?

Yes. I have updated everything. I'm starting to think that a complete reinstall of the OS will resolve the issue.

its not a hardware fault or anything like that. its a registry problem. it occurs after you install norton.
