Can you get a display when you connect to an external monitor?

seems like a gpu issue.

Is it still under warranty?

based upon what Dell says this is the gpu on that laptop.

Graphics
Mobile Intelģ 915PM Express Chipset w/ ATI MOBILITYTM RADEONģ X300 with 64MB DDR video memory
Video type: 128-bit hardware accelerated

It is either the gpu or monitor. Either way you will want to take it in to be repaired. That is why I wondered if it was still under warranty.
