Dell laptop CPU

I have a laptop here, Latitude E6400. The problem here is that it the CPU runs at 100%. It's a Intel Core Duo 2nd generation. Multiple windows where thought to be the cause, but you can just boot up the laptop and let it sit for about 5 mins and it will start doing it when nothing is running. Sounds like the fan is on and moving.

I just need some ideas where to go from here about fixing it.

Which process(es) is(are) taking up a majority of the CPU usage?

You need to find what is running at 100%

Open the task manager, view all processesand sort by cpu % and it'll show you.

You should run malwarebytes in the mean time.

Look at the Task Manager to see which process(es) is/are causing the CPU to run at 100%. If it's an obscure or generic process, you can use Process Explorer to see what program is using the cpu's resources. http://download.sysinternals.com/files/ProcessExplorer.zip

Yeah, I have a windows vista laptop which keeps crashing, which I'm guessing is also down o this.

Try closing a few windows and please inform us of whether the CPU processing speeds up??
