Dead Battery the cause of laptop overheating?

Hey i got a gateway 450 l series and since i got the basta rd the battery has been completely dead. takes no charge what so ever. its a lithium ion battery and i have been using the chord forever. Ive been not buying a new battery because i didnt know if that would fix the overheating problem. its got a 20g hdd and 256m ddr 1.6ghz with an ati radeon mobility 16m. fans sound semi loud but dont know if its just the how loud this ol thing is. please computer nerd gods i beg of you!!! help me so that i may play worms in peace!!!

Your battery is not the problem. It is your CPU that is making it hot. Clean out your side vents, with a can of compressed air.

The battery may be part of the issue.. Li batteries get quite hot charging.

I'd try running with no battery as well as cleaning it out.
