i have a toshiba L300 laptop and would like to know if i can speed the fan up to make it abit cooler inside?

Best thing is a laptop cooling pad.
If you are constantly on the go, I would recommend one of these
Thermaltake Global > Product > Cooler > NotebookCooling > iXoft

The problem is with increasing your fan speed is that with more air flow means that there will be more dust. And the more dust inside your notebook means that it's going to be easier for it to heat up.
Instead of just trying to blow more air around inside your laptop, it's better to bleed the heat off with the use of cooling pads.

The other thing is if you are going to get a gaming notebook, avoid getting one with a plastic enclosure.
