Hi everyone!

I have an Asus K501 laptop. What I want to do is to connect some western digital portable and external hard drives directly into my laptop to be able to recover some files from them. The hard drives currently spin but down work via usb connection. My question is what do I need to be able to connect them to where my current hard drive is in my laptop (like sata cables etc)? Or is there an alternate way of doing this? Keep in mind I have both portable and external hard drives that I wish to get data off, all western digital.

Thankyou so much in advance for your help

Okay,
if I understand you are trying to connect external harddrives and portable hard drives to your laptop.

Currently you plug in through which port? USB or E-sata?

If you use USB and the harddrive jsut spins.. well could be a few things.

In your bios make sure you have power on via USB, or the USB isnt producing enough power to spin the hard drive. your USB can be broke and need replacing.

Please state cleary what steps you are taking and which ports you are connecting what device to, pictures help also
