Default Compaq Evo N1020v RAM Upgrade help - UK

HIYYAAA!!!!

Basically, this laptop is currently running with 2x256mb (512mb :happy of RAM and I was looking to upgrade to the full 1GB.

I've done the Crucial and Kingston RAM finder processes and here are the links if they are of any use:

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/list...1020v%20Series

http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/conf...submit1=Search

I was hoping to be able to purchase 2x512mb at a cheaper price than I can off of these websites though but when searching through ebuyer etc. I am never sure whether their options will work in the laptop and I don't want to end up wasting money.

If anyone could advise me on where to find cheaper RAM for my system then it would be greatly appreciated.
Brand of RAM is really no matter to me I would just like good value for money.

I do realise that many users of the forum are American but still, any help is greatly appreciated

Jack

EDIT: Oh no it's in the wrong place isn't it
What a first impression that was

Welcome, an your post is in the right place.

Lappy ram is a little more expensive than desktop ram but it is coming down in price all the time. Also i would suggest that you don't do it your self if you have no experience with laptop hardware as laptops are harder to open up than a desktop.

Hello,

The RAM you need is DDR SO-DIMM. It has 200 pins. You'll want at least DDR-266 speed RAM (also known as PC2100). Any faster speed will also be compatible.

Assuming you live in the UK, ebuyer is an excellent place to purchase RAM. You can pick up the RAM you need for 17: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/82240 .

Replacing or upgrading RAM is fairly easy. You'll just need to unscrew a square panel from the underside of your laptop. System manual here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...Fc01121626.pdf .

Ah thanks
I do have basic experience with laptop hardware and 'dissection' of this model in particular, it's just the technical buying side that I'm up to scratch on.

Are the Crucial and Kingston RAM options the only ones open to me? Or are there generic, no-name options?

Thanks again

Ah thanks very much for that. It appears we posted at almost the same time so my last post doesn't make much sense.
Cheers very much

Would this for example, also be a viable option?

Amazon.co.uk: ByteStor 512MB PC2100 DDR 266MHz SO-DIMM for Notebooks: Electronics & Photo

Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to find my cheapest option
