Default Can you make your laptop stop charging at, say, 80%?

i was just wondering because i saw my friend do it in class

Sounds like there is some thing wrong with his batter. Like why would you want your computer to suddenly stop charging?

I would suppose that something could be written that could... well actually no I don't think you can, you aren't talking about something that is software/hardware related, you have a sensor that tells you your current charge but it doesn't CONTROL the charge. if his laptop is stopping at 80% his battery or some other portion of his charging hardware or reporting software is messed up.
