Can I get parts to fix laptop, like extra memory, new hard drive etc. can one open the laptop and add these. like one would fix a desktop computer, or do you have to discard the laptop.

No you can upgrade laptops just like desktops but you have to work with more constraints. What model is it?

Memory and HDD are the easiest things to upgrade in a laptop.

Upgrading laptops outside of ram or hdd is not worth it. From my own experience you are limited in the upgrade and then actually doing the upgrade itself can be a major pain in the a!! Make sure you have the owners manual handy before ya crack open the case! Can I ask why ya wanna upgrade?
