Yes. Just buy an SSD or faster HDD from Newegg and put it in the laptop.

Short answer is yes, but why would you? IMO if I am buying a laptop, getting 7200 rpm is an easy find, and wouldn't spend the extra money to replace it. If you intended on getting an SSD, it wouldn't matter what HDD you got because you would replace it.

7200 is fast enough, and they're pretty cheap nowadays. I recommend Western Digital (WD.)

Still, its a waste of money IMO, if you are going to replace it, replace it with an SSD, or just find something that has 7200 rpm.

Not exactly, because most companies will put a huge markup on larger or faster drives to make the laptop you want go from affordable to not worth it. In customizeable laptops you can sometimes just get the smallest and slowest drive and buy a bigger faster one off Newegg for cheaper. It just all depends. Some people want portability and more storage rather than having a speedy SSD.

Well, if you intend on upgrading to a 7200 RPM, I would suggest this one, mainly because it is the cheapest, but still high-end. Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Black wd5000bpkt 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
