Buy expensive or go budget

I'm trying to decide between buying an expensive or budget laptop. I will be using it to play games like World of Tanks, Guild Wars 2 and Skyrim, so it will have to have a dedicated video card (NOT Intel 4000 HD). The more expensive computer will be a little more useful after its gaming days are over, but not so much to completely justify its higher cost. I can afford either, but I'm wondering which is more practical.

iBUYPOWER Computer :: Valkyrie CZ-17 2013 Gaming Laptop
Modify: 16 gb 1600 ram, 750gb 7200 rpm HDD, Win 7 home prem, $8 mouse and headset for total price of $1409 + s&h.

Newegg.com - lenovo IdeaPad G780 (59347664) Notebook Intel Core i5 3210M(2.50GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M

Would the more expensive laptop likely be useful for gaming for twice as long as the cheaper one?

Is it better to buy a $500-600 laptop every 2 years or buy a higher-end laptop every 4?

Does a network card really help reduce lag for online gaming?

Should I try to hold off buying anything for a couple of months due to new tech (Nvidia 700 series video cards) coming out soon?

Any suggestions/alternatives to the options I've researched?
