broken acer aspire 5920 pleeeease help?

Hi all...I have an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop.Somewhat irritatingly,my child sat on the screen,which shattered, so it now resembles a lavalamp.Not a problem thought I,and plugged in my TFT monitor from my tower,which I know works fine.
It boots fine,but when I get to the welcome screen (and the da ding sound) my screen now says NO SIGNAL.I have tried function and F5,function and F6..No avail...What can I do to get it to display?

Have you disconnected the original screen ?

This may be due to the resolution size used .. boot the computer into safe mode, F8 key after POST and BIOS, Then select safe mode. The defualt resolution for safe mode is 800 by 600 all monitors will produce this resolution.
