If it is LCD is has to have a backlight or you wouldnt see anything on screen.

From what i gather there is no LCD without back lighting. Even clocks, calculators and other devices that use LCD's have back lights. Do they mean on the monitor or on the keyboard?

sorry bout that, i mean the monitor.

and thats what i thought but this lady said that she spoke with some sales people and a friend of hers and said that they were telling her that if she gets a mini netbook then she should make sure it has a back-light. because the back-lighted models will last a lot longer then ones thats not.

is their any new laptops that dont use back-light LCD's for the monitor?

There are some monitors that use LEDs for backlight, and others that use CFL (fluorescent) backlight. However, all LCD monitors have some kind of backlight.

I bet they said a LED backlights for a netbook because, like all LEDs, have much lower power consumption.

I'm betting the lady forgot a couple words, and it was get an LED, and not a regular backlight.
