Default Amd Athlon 3700+ or Intel core 2 duo 2.2ghz t7500?

I'm getting a new laptop and would like to know if the processor in it (intel core duo) will be better or worse than my current high end desktop (athlon 64 3700+). Also, will the fact that Vista is running on the laptop whereas the desktop runs xp negate any advantages that one processor would have over the other? In my desktop i have 1 stick of ram while the laptop will have 2. How much more ram does vista use for games than windows xp?
