acer 6530G question on CIR

i've just got a acer 6530G and its got CIR so i'm thinking i could use a remote control to operate windows media player.

The problem is i know nothing about CIR i've looked in the manual and there's no info except that there's a picture of the lappy with the number 2 and an arrow pointing at where the CIR is located which is a great help.

So if a laptop comes with cir how would you set it up

Can you use any remote control

Do you need additional software or should there be something pre-installed or does windows operate it

CIR I'm assuming is like my Acers IR.... 8930G

It'll, as far as I can do it, control the media player only.

I use my Logitech harmony remote to control the Acer Arcade... but thats all I can do
