Default AC-Adapter,Power problems

Alright guys I've got a Compaq CQ61, the I accidentally broke the pin of my last adapter so I bought a new one today. It fully charged the battery but then suddenly died on me. I picked up the adapter to check it hadn't come loose and it was flaming hot. Now whenever I reinsert it, the battery does not charge and it becomes boiling hot within a couple of minutes. My fans etc seem to running perfectly normal and the computer itself is at a comfortable heat.

I've the voltage etc of my new adapter and its the same as the old one.

I was just wondering what you thought it might be? A bad battery? The power connection on the laptop seems fine.

Thanks for any help/suggestions

The brick must be bad, try sending it in for an RMA, if still under warranty.

Thanks for the suggestion. It just gets weirder and weirder.

The cable kept on overheating. I left it for a while, my laptop hit about a 1/4 of the battery. I reinserted the cable and it worked all of a sudden and didn't overheat. I'm really confused! Its working fine now!

I think I'll take this cable back and get a different one just in case.

This could be some hardware faults. A capacitor could of blown.

I wonder if the power adapter is rated high enough for the current drawn by the laptop? If not I would suspect a fault in the power adapter.
