Default XP or Ubuntu

I have a really old pc that I would like to use for like msn, surfing the web, emailing, and all those crap. Its a 400mhz PII OCed, 128mb ram. my question is should I install windows xp or ubuntu? ubuntu has a higher minium requirement than windows xp but i constantly hear people telling other people to install linux on an old pc. I understand that linux is better for hosting and using it as a server than xp but how does it work as a desktop?

Ubuntu will run faster than XP. Ubuntu serve all your needs perfectly.

Yeah, I don't see any reason why one would run faster or slower than the other.

Ubuntu Server comes with a lot fewer programs, though.

I was under the impression that Ubuntu Server doesn't come with X installed, not sure where I got that idea
